Eldorado, Santa Fe

The Eldorado area lies about fifteen miles (or 20 minutes) southeast of the Santa Fe Plaza on gently rolling terrain. The Eldorado subdivision now includes about 2,200 homes. Many lots have lovely views and native piñon and juniper vegetation. The night sky is superb in Eldorado, as the community is very strict about outdoor lighting.

Eldorado is anchored by a small but thriving shopping, restaurant and office complex, a library, a community recreation center, and stables. Nearby is the family-friendly sophisticated Real Food Nation restaurant, with its bocce ball court and the sublime Bobcat Bite, home of what many consider to be Santa Fe’s finest green chile cheeseburger.

The Eldorado Community Improvement Association is the HOA for the community, and it keeps a close eye on homes to ensure the community maintains its consistent look, its open feel and its sense of neighborhood.
The homes in Eldorado often include modern conveniences and a variety of pleasing styles. A number of builders are active here and values have increased steadily for existing properties.

Eldorado is home to a number of artists, potters, and painters in Eldorado, and every year the Eldorado Arts and Crafts Association hosts a tour of artists’ homes, where you can see – and buy – some of the great work they’re doing. The Eldorado Arts and Crafts Association has been in existence for 19 years. It has over 200 members, and the annual Eldorado tour is the largest such tour in New Mexico.

Many families choose to live in Eldorado because of the Eldorado school, which consistently is one of the highest-ranking in Santa Fe. Eldorado school is now K-8 grades, so kids can go from there straight to high school.

The Eldorado area includes many other subdivisions (Alteza, Dos Griegos, Los Vaqueros, Old Road Ranch, and The Ridges), with larger lots and generally more expensive homes. Other subdivisions may offer more interesting terrain or allow horse stables. The historic villages of Lamy and Galisteo lie further to the south, each with its own charm.
