NM for Alternative Energy Companies

If you’re running, or thinking of starting, an alternative energy company, there are many reasons why you should consider starting it in New Mexico. Here is Evolve Real Estate Santa Fe’s latest report, Renewable Energy in NM – outlining why your company should be considering a New Mexico location – for production, distribution or manufacturing.

  • The state government is committed to what it calls the Renewable Energy State, and has layered a new level of incentives and tax credits over its existing portfolio.   The incentive & tax environment for your company, therefore, is very supportive.
  • NM is already an energy state, with the labor skills and transmission infrastructure in place.  NM is one of the US’ largest providers of natural gas, and a large provider of oil also.
  • If you’re manufacturing products for Texas, Arizona, California and Colorado, you’ll find excellent, uncrowded highways here, I-25 North/South and I-40 East/West.  Your trucks can get to those markets quickly and efficiently by road, and for freight trains,  you’ll find BNSF throughout NM.
  • Real estate is available – wide open spaces (close to transmission lines) for your solar farm, and good manufacturing sites for your business.  My focus is on the Santa Fe area, where both types of real estate are available.

Recently there have been several announcements in New Mexico that show the state open for, and interested in, your business.

- Solar energy newcomer, Green2V, announced a billion dollar “Sand to Kilowatts” initiative today that will begin with a multi-structure campus in Rio Rancho and expand to other cities in New Mexico. At completion the $1 billion enterprise will include multiple manufacturing sites and employ 3000 people statewide. A $500 million investment will be made in Rio Rancho where the Green2V campus will include corporate offices, a solar cell manufacturing facility and glass factory.

- Chevron announced a 1 Megawatt concentrating PV solar facility in the northern New Mexico community of Questa.  The installation will consist of 175 panels on 20 acres of land.

- Spanish company GA-Solar has announced the construction of one of the world’s largest PV installations on 2500 acres in southern New Mexico.  This array will produce 300 Mw of installed capacity

- Johnson Plate and Tower will build an 84,000 manufacturing facility in Santa Teresa to build wind towers.  The company was awarded $2,385,000 in 48C Tax Credits credits to help construct the facility.

Evolve Real Estate can work with you in two ways:
1. Consulting and connecting you, on a consultancy fee basis, with the appropriate state, local and other bodies that will develop incentive packages.
and/or 2. Acting as a ‘traditional’ real estate firm, helping you locate and purchase appropriate property for your business.  The commission in this case is typically paid by the seller.
