Entering the World of Willa Cather’s Archbishop – New York Times
Entering the World of Willa Cather’s Archbishop – New York Times.
“Eighty years after Cather’s novel was published and more than 150 since the events she recounted, it is possible to use her narration as a visitor’s guide. One warm March day, paperback in hand, I found my way to all three pueblos, grateful for Cather’s sensitivity to the great beauty and mystery of the Southwest and for her ability to bring to life the characters who had encountered one another in the same landscape so long ago….”
Selling Houses by the Yard
Selling Houses by the Yard – WSJ.com.
“Most homeowners know that replacing the roof or upgrading siding can enhance a house’s curb appeal and boost its sales price. Now, as the housing market continues to weaken, some people are considering what the payback will be if they invest in things that appraisers routinely overlook: flowers, shrubs and trees.
Real-estate agents say a nicely landscaped property can have a pronounced effect on the asking price of a home, depending on the region and the condition of the neighbors’ yards…..”
Here in Santa Fe, although xeriscape is the accepted way, it’s still important to have an appealing first impression. Clear the weeds, shape the shrubs, remove the old truck, freshen up the grass or take it out altogether….

“Now I’m back ….. to describe a slightly different form of fractional ownership: Shared ownership.
“You were intrigued with the range of fractional ownership styles I described, from timeshare-style condo developments to Private Residence Clubs to the posh jet-set Destination Clubs.
But those developments are just that — developments. Massive resort communities of residences, usually set around a golf course and other resort-like amenities.
Just a house, ma’am
You just want a vacation home. A house. A unique structure, constructed like a house, set like a house, decorated like a house. Space and location are important. By the lake, by the beach, in that secluded wooded setting you’ve always coveted.”
Here in Santa Fe we have just two shared ownership properties – one near the Santa Fe Opera in Tesuque – a gracious compound-style property – and the other a convenient, in town apartment club style property. Contact me at 505 699 3985 to see either of them.

buyer, defined as someone who has legally entered the United States to buy a
home. A quarter of the agents surveyed said their business with overseas buyers
had increased over the past five years.
Interest is up primarily because the weak dollar gives
foreigners more buying power, but also because American home prices are low
compared to places like Britain and Japan. “A lot of them perceive the United
States as a bargain,” says Ruth Krinke, a Steamboat Springs, Colo., real estate
agent….”
